Motivated by the $50,000 that they’ll receive at the end of the experiment, Tom and Eve pretend to be married and are selected to participate. !” We also see this very clearly in the scene where the doctor tells his cloned wife that he loves her and she replies, “I don’t” – and the shock on his face…. If we’re supposed to think of Tom as a monster, why did we give him the microphone? The cheaply made indie sci-fi/thriller is akin to a cinematic cul-de-sac, as it has absolutely nowhere to go in the end but to turn around and retread its steps in massive confusion. Throughout the entire movie, we see Tom being aggressive and abusive towards Eve – during sex, in the way he treats her as a person and finally in her death. In return for completing the live human trial, each couple will receive $50 000. “Everything,” he replies as triumphant music sounds off. Haunted house film Noise in the Middle coming soon to VOD. The real beauty of horror is that as more diverse voices tell their stories, we find out there exist terrors we’ve never personally experienced. So too is the finale a vexing head-scratcher. At one point Eve eats acid-laced cookies and hallucinates seeing a murder, which ultimately adds nothing much to the movie but a gratuitous slasher quickie. As the days unfold inside the luxury lab, Tom and Eve grow further apart rather than closer together. Exclusive Trailer! Trailer Watch movie. While it can be argued that THE HONEYMOON PHASE attempts to make a statement on women’s autonomy, it repeatedly fumbles the message in its short runtime, coming in at just under 90 minutes. Performances at times seemed a little unnatural, but for me fit in with the oddness of it all. The Honeymoon Phase doesn’t have the clean lines and smooth flow of experience in its execution. As we wait for far too long to understand the core of Tom and Eve’s domestic problems, the drama finally picks up when two have sex that ends in a strangely accelerated pregnancy. One of the things I didn’t like is how unconvincing the couple’s marital strife comes off as. There have been so many conversations asking how we can tell stories about graphic experiences without glorifying them: for example, telling a story about rape without actually showing the assault. Tom becomes aggressive and insistent that Eve carry “his” child, and when she becomes pregnant against all odds, Eve finds a side of Tom that’s unlike the man she previously knew.
