Erst drei Jahre später gelang es David Coverdale, sich aus vertraglichen Zwängen zu befreien: Das Album Into the Light war das erste seit 22 Jahren, das unter seinem eigenen Namen erschien. Pingback: Whitesnake Announce New 'Love Songs' Compilation – The Big Rewind, Love it all! Their guitar playing helped make this album what it is…a Beast!! The first full length album from Whitesnake was a great starting point, however, a few issues. ( Log Out / Starting back on August 1st, 2019, we started the David Coverdale Series of reviews. The biggest standouts are “Wine, Women an’ Song”, “Hot Stuff”, “Come An’ Get It” and “Don’t Break My Heart Again”. In fact, this No. 2016 wurde David Coverdale zusammen mit seinen ehemaligen Mitmusikern von Deep Purple in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aufgenommen. . This track provides a bridge between the group's flashier new lineup and its old blues-based sound, as Coverdale here sounds more like Bad Company's Paul Rodgers than any singer ultimately labeled heavy metal. The band’s most recent release is one of the strongest albums since ‘Slip of the Tongue’. Wainting patiently on this “new” album. I said it was ballad heavy, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t love some ballads, most especially “Wherever You May Go”, “Too Many Tears” and most especially “Love is Blind”. Great job. This might have been the longest post I’ve done…that is until I do the Kiss ranking next year. The Mark III version of Deep Purple’s second album is not quite as good as ‘Burn’. I miss those little jam sessions we got on the earlier release. The songs were the strongest yet of the Whitesnake albums up to 1980, but really, they are still strong by even today’s standards. It sold a million Stateside, but the partnership didn’t last and we should probably be grateful for that. Now, Plant and Page got back together shortly thereafter and did a few things and I like to think thanks in small part to this. I also really liked the Lorraine Ellison song “Stay With Me”. For those complaining about the omission of early Whitesnake tracks, I interviewed David when ‘The Rock Album’ came out and he told me then he would love nothing better than to revisit those albums, but due to various record label red tape, he can’t touch anything that came before ‘Slide It In’. The band’s second full-length studio album became infamous for the Chris Achilleos cover painting depicting a naked woman astride a snake – but it starts with Coverdale in romantic, not sexist, mood on Long Way From Home. Most importantly “Best Years”, “Can You Hear the Wind Blow”, “Good To Be Bad” and “Call on Me”. if you want something to listen to while driving with the top down in some steamy Californian clime, then this Whitesnake is hard to beat. One thing that bugged me was 9 out of the 11 songs were over 5 minutes which can make the album drag on too long and this one did just that at moments. Ian Paice’s drumming and Jon Lords tickling of those ivories is always top-notch. Two of the biggest tracks were the re-imagined versions from our #7 album on the list with “Crying in the Rain” and “Here I Go Again”. There are a few that can be ignored, but the rest are so good it took this album all the way to #6 in my book. Keep it coming David – and if you haven’t already – start working on the next all new album to followup Flesh & Blood with – it’s been far too long for this member of the WS choir! You cannot go wrong with your number 1 and 2 picks! The river song 00 ( Log Out / If Coverdale can be accused of a significant crime against music beyond merely his uncanny vocal and physical resemblance to Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant, it's that he had an annoying tendency during the '80s to recycle his and Whitesnake's best tunes. Dismissed at times as derivative and uninspiring, '70s and '80s hard rock band Whitesnake created plenty of strong music during the peak of the arena rock and hair metal eras. © Originally planned as a solo album but released under the banner of David Coverdale & Whitesnake this ends up sounding halfway between the two. Burn sees his young voice cope easily with full-on blitzkrieg (the title-track) and shift gracefully and powerfully through Purple detours into slow blues (Mistreated), even soul (Might Just Take Your Life) and funk (Sail Away). Co-written mostly with guitarist John Sykes, this is Whitesnake at their heaviest but knocked into radio-friendly shape by Mike Stone, the man behind Journey’s Escape. And the album cover is one of the best! Ain’t gonna cry no more? An incredible feat considering the pressure on him… He was a nobody joining a band of seasoned pros, knowing Paul Rodgers had been first choice, and that the reputation of one of the world’s biggest bands rested on his performance. Side One as I said. The only problem was the album had too many slow tracks which would be my biggest complaint. It was a match made in Heaven. The guitar playing is sensational on this album, but the guitar sound was lacking a little punch in sonics. The album opens really strong, but starts to fade after the 5th song with too many misses then hits.
